Detecting weeds in their initial phase of growth to spare costs in their elimination is the goal of the first guide on this subject published in Spanish, written by two lecturers at the University of Lleida (UdL). is authored by Jordi Recasens and Josep Antoni Conesa, lecturers and researchers in the Department of Horticulture, Fruit Growing, Botany and Gardening. UdL itself and the company BayerCropScience are in charge of the edition.

This book is the result of more than 15 years of study and includes some 300 species of weeds, accompanied by more than 400 drawings and 1,300 colour pictures
The information collected in the book includes about 20 specialisation courses that the authors have taught at UdL for pesticide companies, together with 10 more courses taught in different parts of Spain for technicians in BayerCropScience. Because of that, its contents include the great majority of weeds existing in all crop varieties in Spain.

Weeds as Plantlets: Identification Guide was publicly presented on the 15th April in the Videoconference Room at the Centre for Cultures and Transnational Cooperation (Cappont campus). The event took place at 7.30 p.m. and the authors were accompanied the UdL Vice-Rector for Cultural Activities and University Planning Jaume Barrull, Carlos Zaragoza (Agricultural Research and Development Centre in the Aragón Provincial Council) and Enrique Díaz (BayerCropScience).

The authors belong to the UdL Weed Research Group, the only one existing in this field in Catalonia. They aim at circulating this guide among academic and scientific circles from Latin American countries during the International Conference on Weeds to be held in Lisbon next autumn.
